Connector Sourcing Guide: Pitch, Positions, Housing and Contact Checks

2026-06-09 13:32:31

Connectors are often described with short names, but the correct buying decision depends on many mechanical details. Pitch, number of positions, orientation, housing, contacts and mating parts all need to match the design before a purchase order is placed.

Confirm pitch and position count

Pitch and position count should be checked directly from the datasheet or drawing. Similar connector families may use different pitch values, locking features or row arrangements. A small mechanical mismatch can make the part unusable during assembly.

Identify the mating connector

Many connector RFQs fail because only one side of the mating pair is specified. Confirm whether the BOM requires header, receptacle, housing, crimp contact, terminal, cable assembly or accessory. Include all related part numbers when requesting a quote.

Check electrical and environmental ratings

Current rating, voltage rating, contact resistance, plating material, temperature range and insertion cycles affect reliability. For industrial or automotive applications, compliance and environmental requirements should be included in the RFQ notes.

Specify packaging and production needs

Connectors may ship in tray, bag, tube, reel or bulk packaging. For production, ask whether the part is suitable for automated placement or manual assembly. This helps avoid receiving stock that is technically correct but operationally inconvenient.

Use the SENICO RFQ page for connector requirements and review BOM RFQ preparation before sending multiple connector lines.
