A useful TI power-management RFQ identifies the exact device and its job in the power tree. A buck converter, an LDO, a gate driver and a multi-channel PMIC have different qualification requirements. Current availability needs a quotation for the specific ordering code; a product-category list is not a stock statement.
Classify each power-tree function
Start with the approved schematic and connect each requested part to its input supply, output rail or protection function. TI’s power-management portfolio distinguishes converters, regulators, gate drivers, sequencers and multi-channel PMICs. Use those categories to organize a BOM review, while preserving the actual manufacturer part numbers.
For every rail, capture its normal voltage, maximum expected load and startup requirements. Identify whether a device supplies an analog circuit, a processor core or an external load. This context helps engineering evaluate a proposed alternative without confusing parts that happen to share a voltage or current rating.
Keep configuration and package options visible
Check fixed versus adjustable outputs, switching-frequency options and any factory-programmed configuration. For configurable PMICs, compare the power-up defaults and sequencing behavior with the target processor’s requirements. A familiar base device name may be insufficient when the production design relies on a particular configuration.
Include the exact package suffix, thermal-pad arrangement and packing format. If purchasing requests an alternate package because it is easier to obtain, have engineering review the footprint and thermal implications before accepting the offer. Specify acceptable alternatives separately from options still awaiting qualification.
Request evidence that supports the build schedule
Break the demand into prototypes, the next build and later releases. Ask the quotation to state the offered quantity, delivery basis, packing condition and applicable lot documentation. Distinguish confirmed supply for the proposed shipment from an indicative future lead time.
For any substitute, keep the revised inductor, capacitor and protection requirements with the comparison record. Evaluate the candidate under actual startup, transient and thermal conditions. A purchasing saving can disappear if the quotation omits components or board changes required to use the alternative.
Frequently asked questions
Can a pin-compatible power IC be ordered without further review?
Pin compatibility is one check. Control-loop behavior, startup, protection thresholds and external component requirements still need confirmation for the application.
What if the exact TI ordering code is unavailable?
Separate the search for the approved item from engineering evaluation of alternatives. Record any proposed changes and qualify them before purchasing releases a substitution.
